THREE TIPS TO BETTER WELLBEING

Okay, I admit it, the health kick really did take a while to kick in this year!
But.. better late than never here are my top three tips for wellness, health and a stress-free day.

HEALTH AND DIET

Let me start off by saying that everyone has their own diet plans which work for them, so i'm not going to sit here and list all the things I eat (as that would be very boring). What I am going to do is tell you my favourite foods and explain the benefits behind the fads.
Grapefruit.
I've seen people torture themselves with grapefruits for years, and I used to be one of you, but honestly, by day two I was totally hocked. I've had a grapefruit a day for about two weeks now and I feel fantastic. Did you know that grapefruits are good for your heart? That's because they contain a powerful combination of fiber, potassium, lycopene, vitamin C and choline. Studies also show that grapefruits help speed up metabolism and can act as an appetite suppressant. When i'm feeling extra fancy I have my grapefruit with passion fruit and wash it down with a wellness tea. Passionfruit has a whole list of health benefits too and contains 1/4 of your potassium needs.

Lemon Water
I used to not function in the mornings without a cup of tea, but I've recently switched my regular Twinnings Everyday Blend for a cup of warm water with lemon. The benefits of this will no doubt be streaming your Facebook feed but did you know that it's actually the temperature of the water which does most of the work? Adding the lemon just makes it taste better. Lemon Water helps with digestion so drinking a glass first thing in the morning can help flush the digestive system and re-hydrate the body.

Avocado on Toast
The hipsters bestie I know but I can not deny my love of avocado on toast (even better if its sour dough bread from Waitrose). I have this for lunch five days a week - it's my go to work lunch. Not only is it delicious, it is also incredibly good for you. Avocados are also good for your heart and their high levels of vitamin E helps prevent cholesterol oxidation. They also have potassium which can regulate high blood pressure that may lead to heart disease and kidney failure. On top of all of that, avocados are proven to do wonders for your complexion (I'm always being asked why my complexion is so good but I had no idea it was due to avocados).

Water
I drink 2 liters of water a day.  The benefits are endless but include: Improved energy levels, relieves fatigue, flushes out toxins and keeps you regular, improves skin complexion, boosts the immune system and even helps relieve and prevent headaches, migraines and back pain (which are all normally caused by dehydration). My migraines are almost always caused by fatigue, but I do find that a bottle of water and a banana usually rids me of a smaller headache.
WELLNESS
Wellness is a word that can mean so many different things to so many different people. For me, wellness is a way to keep my mind in line and to make healthy choices. It may sound like a buzz word however it is an active process towards a healthy and fulfilling life. There are even six stages of health and wellness: physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environmental and social. In order to be completely content with life, you should be making smart choices and taking care of yourself inside and out. This also includes environmental and taking care of the space we inhabit.

Yoga
I have always wanted to take a yoga class but I have never found the right class for me so recently I decided to try an app. This app had been appearing on my Facebook nearly daily so I thought it was about time I gave it a shot. I decided to partake in yoga in the evening, when I get home from work and need to stretch out my limbs following a day of being cramped over the computer. This actually worked out to be the best time as it is a great way to unwind after the day. The app I have is called Asana Rebel. There are payment plans available including a free plan which offers new workout videos every day. These videos are only around 5 minutes long but you start to pick up the stretches and can incorporate extra in your classes. I opted for the all access option so that I could use the weekly workout plans. The benefits of regular yoga sessions are: improved flexibility, muscle strength and tone, improved energy levels, helps maintain a balanced metabolism and helps with cardio and circulatory health.

Environmental 
When you think of wellness, you might only think of how something affects you inside but the environmental aspect should not be dismissed. We live and breath in the world, so does it not make sense that we should look after that world as though it were an extension of ourselves and our home?
Making smart choices environmentally means taking a moment to think of something other than yourself. Small changes like recycling, using environmentally friendly cleaning products in the home, not wasting water, all these things will add up to a better world and better air to breath.  We all play a huge role in looking after our planet and can feel a lot better for ourselves having spent some time putting someones needs before our own.
STRESS-FREE DAY
Now this isn't intended to sound preachy, every one has a different way to unwind and relax so my top tips here may come as no surprise to you. Get the right amount of sleep, don't overthink the small things, switch off all electrical appliances at least one hour before bed and lastly, read! Reading keeps our minds active.
