NOSTALGIA

"He taught me to have no fear or shame of my own ideas, to design perpetually,
to seek no popularity, to be altogether myself"
Edward Burne-Jones speaking of Rossetti
I was six or seven when I first found my love of the Pre-Raphaelites. Their romanticised vision of life captured my heart and filled my mind with dreams; I became a dreamer at a young age and I never seemed to wake. When I eventually picked up the camera some time later, I began to experiment with story telling and re-telling fairytales, and all the stories I loved as a child.

The above quote was taken from the Memorials of Edward Burne-Jones as written by his wife, Georgiana Macdonald Burne-Jones. I have a love for old books full of letters and memories and I feel there is something so romantic about nostalgia. This thought, whilst reading the pages of the past, sparked an urge to express something creatively and after a recent trip to Surrey, that is exactly what I have done.
Letters and memories capture screenshots of the past, taking little details of the lives around us and choosing which of these details to share and pass down to others. The screenshots of an artists life are often moments of romance and headache.

When you grow up, it becomes quite easy to loose track of your dreams, and to try to follow the steps set out for you. Luckily for me, I come from a family of creatives where dreams are encouraged. I am becoming more determined to focus on my creative side, to be guided by nature and to follow my dreams.

As I have already mentioned the Memorials once, I feel it is apt to end with another quote from Georgiana Burne-Jones as the pages of the Memorials of Edward Burne-Jones are not only about his life, but about how she felt being a part of his world. This quote feels truer to me than any other:
"I felt it was well being amongst those who painted pictures and wrote poetry".

  1. Good to know about it. For girls, often it is hard to fulfill their dreams. However if families encourage them to fulfill their dreams and support them then they can perform even better than men. PhD dissertation writing service
